Success Story

Linda was admitted to CuraHealth Hospital Oklahoma City South following an admission at Southwest Medical Hospital with acute respiratory failure with vent dependence s/p tracheostomy placement. Prior to her acute admission Linda lived at home. She was independent with all self-care and mobility, drove a car and was active in community. Upon evaluation by the rehab team, she required near total assistance with all mobility and self-care, unable to walk or take care of personal needs. She couldn’t speak or eat, receiving nutrition from a nasal gastric tube. Linda worked hard with physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology over the course of four weeks. She was highly motivated to get stronger and resume her independent lifestyle. At discharge Linda had been decannulated requiring no supplemental oxygen. Upon discharge from Curahealth, she was able to walk with supervision, bathe and dress herself with set-up, and was tolerating a modified solid diet with thickened liquids.
